Fire alarm on Friday evening in St. Johann in Tirol (Kitzbühel district)! A 3D printer that had been running for hours caused a fire in an apartment. Neighbors heard explosive sounds and noticed smoke. No one was injured, but a cat did not survive the inferno.
Two residents of an apartment building in St. Johann in Tirol noticed three explosive sounds coming from a ground-floor apartment around 8:25 p.m. “The men then noticed smoke coming from the affected apartment, called 911 and evacuated all residents present from the building,” police said. The family of the affected apartment was not present at the time of the incident.
The printer had been on since the morning
“The fire brigade gained access to the fire apartment, was able to detect embers and smoke in the study room and carried out extinguishing work there,” the director explains. Based on investigation, the area where the fire broke out was limited to the investigation area, which contained several electronic devices. One 3D printer in particular was very badly damaged. According to the residents of the affected apartment, the printer had been in operation since the morning.
Large contingent of emergency services
“Based on the track pattern, it can be assumed, according to current knowledge, that a technical defect is the cause of the fire,” the researchers said. Fortunately, no one was injured. Unfortunately, only one cat could be rescued dead from the apartment. About 50 emergency services were deployed with ten vehicles from the St. Johann volunteer fire brigade, four Red Cross emergency services and three police patrols.
