A driver with a probationary license drove dangerously. The 19-year-old left the grid in Burgenland and sped away. A wild chase with the police followed.
Shortly before the absolute peak of this year’s carnival activity, the police tighten controls. The emphasis is mainly on driving under the influence. In Burgenland alone, almost 80 officers from the state traffic service and the district police command were on duty last weekend.
From Saturday 4 p.m. to Sunday around 2 a.m., 900 cars were checked and 802 breath analyzes and alcohol tests were carried out. Six drivers had a blood alcohol level of more than 0.8 and one driver was under the influence of drugs. The inglorious frontrunner was a 33-year-old man from the Eisenstadt district; he was behind the wheel with a blood alcohol content of 1.84.
The 19-year-old driver fled from the police
A 19-year-old driver in Oberwart caused a commotion. Instead of the permitted 50 km/h, the holder of a probationary license drove 120 km/h. Outside the city he stepped on the gas and reached a speed of 200 km/h. Only half would have been correct. The police gave chase. The reckless driving was promptly stopped. The trial license is gone!
A motorist in the Eisenstadt district ignored a 70 km/h limit. He was traveling at a speed of 135 km/h. In Oberpullendorf a driver was caught driving in the area at a speed of 94 km/h. In both cases, a report has been filed and a procedure for revoking the driver’s license has been initiated.
Engine illegally upgraded
A 17-year-old in the Eisenstadt district was attacked by police with a tuned motorized bicycle. The chassis dynamometer inspection showed that the illegally upgraded vehicle can reach a top speed of 115 km/h. Continuing the journey was no longer possible. The license plates have been removed. A total of 225 speeding violations were reported, which the officers recorded using radar measurements.
50 reports due to insufficient distance
There is also strict action against mobile phone calls while driving and other crimes responsible for many accidents. 50 reports were made by pushers because the distance was too short. 138 other reports have been filed and 121 criminal warrants have been issued. Operational manager Rudolf Ehrenhöfer announces that special attention will be paid to traffic today and tomorrow.
