Following a frenzy announced in writing at Mistelbach High School in Lower Austria, two underage students have now been identified as suspects by police. The students wanted to use the threatening letter to force a day off.
The alleged threatening letter was discovered in the high school auditorium on the afternoon of May 19, announcing a killing spree for May 20. The school was searched by officials the same day, but the search was unsuccessful. An explosives detection dog was also involved in the action.
Lessons went smoothly
Police said there was no indication of an actual eruption. As a result, the two suspects’ original plan to get a day off from school failed. Classes took place undisturbed on 20 May.
Duo confesses
The lessons were accompanied by a security concept with entrance and area checks by police officers from the Mistelbach district and the Rapid Intervention Group. “The safety of the students and teaching staff was guaranteed at all times by the security measures taken,” it was emphasized. The student duo confessed.
