Juan Ignacio Martínez ‘JIM’ will not continue as coach of Real Zaragoza after the club decided not to extend the relationship with the coach from Alicante, as well as with his second Juan Manuel Guerrero and physical trainer Javi López, who expires on 30th June.
“From Real Zaragoza we would like to express our deep gratitude to our coach and coaching staff for their work and great dedication. Thank you and good luck, JIM,” the Aragonese club told its official media.
Juan Ignacio Martínez’s stage began in Zaragoza on December 14, 2020 with the goal of achieving permanence which became very expensive in a campaign where the main goal was to have options to fight for promotion to the highest category. .
JIM arrives with a team that is in the penultimate position on the table and leaks everywhere, threatening to lose the category.
After 10 wins and 7 draws in his first 22 games, he was able to prove continuity in the silver category of Spanish football.
This season, Juan Ignacio Martínez has finished the campaign with 12 wins, 20 draws and 10 losses. Again, the goal was to get into the promotion round, something that soon went awry and within days the team fought again so as not to fall into the pit of the 1st RFEF.
The reaction in the latter part of the second round allowed us to finish without stress but very far, again, from the goal set, although this goal, in recent campaigns, seems more sentimental than logical because the ‘blanquillo ‘that team finished this season as the nineteenth budget category, something that wouldn’t seem equal to the logic of a promotion if it wasn’t focused more than the weight prism of the club’s history.
In total, JIM has managed Real Zaragoza in 66 League games and five Cup games.
The club’s new general director, Raúl Sanllehí, appreciated JIM’s career with the Aragonese team and expressed a “marked sense of gratitude” to Juan Ignacio ”for his work and professionalism both at all levels that make up Real Zaragoza and to the fans of Zaragoza itself, and that in football today is not easy to achieve ”.
“In recent weeks I have also witnessed firsthand the commitment and dedication he has shown to this club. So I just have words of gratitude for him and I wish him the best of luck with his next professionals. that challenge ”, he declared.
Miguel Torrecilla, sports director of the club, also appreciates the work of the coach from Alicante: “I have known Juan Ignacio for a long time and he always shows his professionalism and high level as a coach. Ever since we arrived in Zaragoza, he has been the leader of our dressing room. I wish him the best in his new stage, thank you for all the efforts he has made for Zaragoza ”.
