Protest in Germany – farmers block planned arms factory

About 400 people and about 300 tractors blocked access to a planned new ammunition factory of the German arms company Rheinmetall in Lower Saxony on Monday. Some parts of the road are closed, there are obstacles, but: “You can get through the city,” said a police spokesperson.

The “Zuid-Heide Peace Campaign” also took part in the campaign. Ten people protested peacefully in the form of a vigil against the “armament and war policy”, their spokesperson said. “We expect the government to have a de-escalating effect,” the report continued.

Groundbreaking ceremony with Scholz and Pistorius
Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (both SPD) also appeared at the Lüneburg Heath on Monday for the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new ammunition factory in Unterlüß. The new “Lower Saxony factory” will produce artillery ammunition, among other things. Unterlüß is the arms company’s largest production site; In addition to ammunition, military vehicles such as the Puma infantry fighting vehicle are also produced there.
