Just on the day of the announcement that masks will be in stores from June, the new corona mutations are spreading in Lower Austria. 25 cases of the BA.4 and BA.5 variants were detected. The “Krone” has all the information.
Ten days after the “Krone” reported the first appearance of the contagious BA.4 virus variant in Lower Austria, official confirmation came on Tuesday. BA.4 and BA.5 mutations were detected in 25 people with their primary residence in Lower Austria. 14 of those affected are considered actively infected, 11 people have already recovered.
Five of those affected live in the districts of Mödling and St. Pölten, three in the districts of Korneuburg, Bruck an der Leitha and Mistelbach, two in the districts of Tulln and Gänserndorf and one person in the regions of Baden and Zwettl.
Five other people living in Vienna are also infected with the variants, but are in isolation in this country. “The mutations are there. But there is no need to panic,” said the office of Health Minister Ulrike Königsberger-Ludwig. However, experts fear that the variant is up to ten percent more contagious. According to data from South Africa, those who have recovered from BA.1 are likely to have a poorer protection against infection.
