Not yet opened – Injured in fire at water park in Gothenburg

A major fire broke out on Monday at a water park that has not yet opened in Gothenburg, Sweden. Twelve people were slightly injured and sought medical help themselves.

According to the team at Liseberg theme park, of which the water park is part, the entire building was on fire. The fire started in a water slide and had not yet been extinguished in the afternoon.

Images from Swedish television channel SVT showed dark, thick smoke spreading through the city. The head of operations asked the population in the area to stay in their homes, close doors and windows and turn off ventilation. According to police, several buildings, including a hotel, have been completely evacuated.

The cause is still unclear
Twelve people were slightly injured in the fire. The cause of the fire in the “Oceana” water park was initially unknown. According to the Gothenburg amusement park, there were no guests in the bathroom when the fire broke out. The water park should open in the summer and become part of Liseberg. According to a spokeswoman, the pools were recently filled with water and the final inspection was scheduled for April.
