City of Salzburg – The first confirmed case of measles has been diagnosed in a six-year-old

Date:

A six-year-old boy developed a rash in the city of Salzburg since Saturday and was taken to the children’s clinic. Since yesterday, laboratory research has confirmed that he is infected with the highly contagious disease measles.

The one-year-old brother now also has a fever. The parents are still symptom-free, said Rainer Pusch of the city health department.

The six-year-old boy goes to the Froschheim kindergarten on Plainfeldstrasse. He was last on site a week ago. All parents were informed by the city’s kindergarten department and asked to check the vaccination status of their children and their own.

What the head of the health department also notes: “Measles is a serious common disease. This is often underestimated. The only people who know for sure are those who have had the virus confirmed in a laboratory, have antibodies or have been demonstrably vaccinated twice. All others are not sufficiently protected! And: The vaccination is free for everyone at the health department (tel. 0662/8072-4848), at the GP (with a replacement voucher from the state) or at the vaccination street in Wals-Himmelreich.”
