A fire broke out in the early hours of Friday morning at a supermarket in Gratkorn (Styria). When firefighters arrived, the entire store was filled with smoke. 35 firefighters from four departments quickly brought the fire under control, no one was injured. However, the material damage is enormous, it should amount to several hundred thousand euros. The fire probably broke out in the confectionery department, the cause is still unclear.
The fire in a Billa supermarket in Gratkorn is believed to have started just before 4 a.m. The fire is believed to have started in the confectionery department. A supermarket worker noticed the fire when she arrived around 4:30 am. A total of 35 firefighters from the Gratkorn-Markt, Gratwein and Judendorf fire brigades and the Sappi Gratkorn company fire brigade were able to quickly extinguish the fire.
About six linear meters of shelf space burned out completely. However, the entire interior of the supermarket was severely affected by the heat and smoke. According to the injured party, the resulting material damage would amount to several hundred thousand euros. No one was injured.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been fully clarified. It is being investigated.
