A 51-year-old fell over a dike in Graz in the Mur on Tuesday afternoon with a five-month-old baby. A jogger (36) came to the two’s aid. It was probably a medical emergency.
Around 2 p.m., the 36-year-old jogger from the Graz region spotted a man on the Murradweg, just south of the Puchsteg. He lay in the water near the western bank of the Mur, holding a baby in his arms as he sought help. The 36-year-old immediately provided first aid and called 911.
Red Cross emergency services and a police patrol arrived on the banks of the Mur shortly afterwards, with rescuers tending to the man and toddler. Although both had no visible injuries, they were wet and hypothermic and were taken by the Red Cross to the Graz State Hospital or to the children’s clinic.
Walking with grandchildren
It turned out that the man was a 51-year-old Bosnian from Graz. He walked with a stroller. He may have had a sudden medical emergency, after which he and his five-month-old baby fell over the embankment into the icy Mur.
