The Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa calls for participation in the concentration called on Friday in San Sebastián by ELA and LAB in defense of the Basque Country before the appeal against the general bases and the call for 119 administrative positions due to the Basque profile requirement C1 or B2.

The provincial spokesperson, Irune Berasaluzehas extended this call to the employees of this institution, to the agents linked to the Basque language and to the citizens.

The appeal refers to an agreement adopted by the Government Council on December 29, 2022, which approved the OPE’s selective processes for the stabilization of public employment in the Provincial Council, in particular those corresponding to 119 administrative staff positions.

These places, which were created through a merit competition that took place last year, are pending the final awardThe Provincial Council reported this in a statement.

Berasaluze assured that the Provincial Council convenes all its PPOs “with respect to current legislation, with all legal guarantees, and in accordance with the linguistic standardization plans adopted by consensus to protect the linguistic rights of citizens.”

For this reason, he has announced that the Provincial Council “will continue to defend where its powers are needed in the areas of public service delivery and the promotion of linguistic equality”, as he has done in previous lawsuits challenging the Basque language requirement. including quotes from the Uliazpi Foundation.

In this case, the regional institution has appealed the decision of the Court, which is currently awaiting a resolution.

Berasaluze has defended that “asking an official as a requirement to know Basque, one of the two official languages ​​of the Basque Autonomous Community, cannot be considered discrimination.”

Finally, Berasaluze has highlighted “the trajectory that Basque society and institutions have followed for decades in favor of linguistic normalization” and has advocated “continuation of progress, based on consensus, but with the necessary determination, so as not to take steps to give back.” .
