A Romanian almost killed a fellow inmate in Graz-Jakomini prison with the sharp shard of a broken mirror. The motive: The fellow countryman had accidentally splashed water on the 25-year-old’s bed.
Three Romanians shared a prison cell at the time of the crime. Two of the prisoners (a human trafficker and a stalker) were fooling around and splashing water on each other. The bed of the third Romanian – he was in prison for several thefts, including thefts – got wet.
Annoyance about wet bed
The 25-year-old was so annoyed by this that a wild, initially verbal argument broke out. The angry Romanian called the mobile phone intercom several times to report the problem.
But because a prison guard did not arrive immediately, the 25-year-old broke the two mirrors in the detention room and armed himself with two triangular, pointed shards of glass. With the shards in his hand, he walked to one of the splashes of water and threatened: “Come here, I’ll kill you.”
“Let’s talk”
His compatriot agreed to fight, but first asked the 25-year-old to clean up the broken glass. The third Romanian, who was imprisoned due to the ongoing persecution, intervened and wanted to mediate. “Let’s talk,” he asked the 25-year-old.
She fled to the bunk bed
But he didn’t even think about backing down and suddenly gave the mediator several powerful stabs in the chest, upper abdomen and neck. Despite the serious injuries, the victim managed to push a mattress between himself and the attacker. Then the bleeding prisoner climbed onto the top bunk, where his other compatriot had already taken refuge.
The victim barely survived
While the 25-year-old suspect sat listlessly at the dining table, the suspected human trafficker tried to stop the profusely bleeding wounds of the alleged stalker with a sheet. Several prison guards eventually intervened and started the rescue chain. The victim barely survived, but is said to have gone into hiding after his release.
The attempted murder trial will take place before a jury at the end of March.
