January CPI rises by a tenth in the BAC to 3.5% and remains at 2.9% in Navarra

Inflation recovered in January, boosted by the price of food and non-alcoholic drinks. In the state, the interannual CPI was 3.4% in January.

The international CPI of the Basque Autonomous Community In January it was located in a 3.5%mainly due to the increase in food prices, while prices increased by 0.1% compared to the previous month.

According to data published on Thursday by the National Statistical Institute (INE), the interannual rate for January represents an increase of four-tenths compared to that of December, which was 3.1%.

The Food and Non-Alcoholic Drinks group has seen the biggest increase, with 7%, while Hotels, Cafes and Restaurants have increased by 5.3% and Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco by 4.6%.

To a lesser extent, prices rose in Other 4.3%, Leisure and Culture (3.0%), Household (2.4%), Medicine (2.4%), Education (2.2%), Clothing and footwear (1.8%), Housing (1.5%), Communications (0.6%) and Transport (0.1%).

By area, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa experienced identical behavior: the CPI increased by 3.6% year-on-year, while in Álava prices increased by 2.8%.

Compared to last January, the CPI increased by 0.1 in Álava, remained unchanged in Bizkaia and increased by 0.3% in Gipuzkoa.

Navarre

Prices fell last January Navarre0.5%, and remains at the 2.9% the interannual rate, in line with the data of the previous month. On a monthly basis, inflation in the Foral community decreased by 0.5%.

Where prices in Navarra increased the most compared to the same month of the previous year, it was for food and non-alcoholic drinks, 7.2% more than in January 2023 (-0.1 point compared to the interannual rate of the previous month); restaurants and hotels, 4.5% more (-0.9 points); alcoholic drinks and tobacco, 4% more (+0.5 points) and clothing and footwear, 3.8% more (+2.1 points).

On the other hand, where prices fell the most year-on-year, the transport sector was the only category in which they fell, at -0.3% (-4.4 points compared to the previous month’s figure).

Compared to the previous month, prices fell significantly in clothing and footwear (-11.4%), in leisure and culture (-4.5) and in hotels, cafes and restaurants (-1.1), while in Menaje remained the same. In the rest of the groups, the CPI increased in housing (3.2), communication (1.8), alcoholic drinks and tobacco (1.5), food and non-alcoholic drinks (0.6), other (0. 3), medicine (0.2), transportation (0.1) and teaching (0.1).

In Spain the CPI rose by one in the month of January 3.4% on an annual basis, the price was three-tenths higher than in December, due to the increase in electricity costs, while the price of food rose one-tenth compared to the previous month and amounted to 7.4%.
