Thousands of drivers in large parts of Tyrol had to deal with countless traffic jams and long waiting times on Saturday. On the return trip from the ski areas there was a lot of traffic, especially around Fern Pass. The result was a loss of time of up to an hour.
It took a lot of patience when we left Tyrol on Saturday. The return journey from the ski resorts became a real game of patience for many holidaymakers and locals. On the third weekend of the semester holidays, skiers were stuck in traffic jams, the ÖAMTC reported. While it was quiet in eastern Austria, Tyrol in particular suffered from heavy return traffic.
Huge waste of time
There were traffic jams on local roads, especially around the border with Germany. “On the way to the Fernpass (B179), traffic jams formed on the Mieminger Straße (B189) from Tarrenz and Dormitz, while on the Seefelder Straße (B177) holidaymakers stood in front of the Scharnitz border crossing in parts back to Zirl,” the ÖAMTC said. .
The time lost when leaving the ski areas was sometimes more than an hour, for example in the Zillertal or the Pass Thurn Straße. There were also columns in both directions on the Tauernautobahn A10 in Salzburg near the Werden construction site. At the Kufstein/Kiefersfelden border crossing, travelers had to be patient: it took about 40 minutes longer to get there.
