Rheinmetall plans to build a new factory for the production of artillery ammunition in Ukraine. The German defense company and a Ukrainian partner company signed a declaration of intent on the sidelines of the 60th Munich Security Conference, the company announced on Saturday.
“We want to be an efficient partner for Ukraine in rebuilding Ukraine’s once strong defense industry and ensuring the autonomy of Ukrainian capabilities,” said Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger, explaining the decision.
According to the announcement, Minister of Strategic Industry Alexander Kamyshin was present at the signing on the Ukrainian side.
The joint venture is expected to produce six-figure bullets per year at the two partners’ factory.
First collaboration last year
In October last year, the German arms company established its first joint venture with a Ukrainian partner to maintain and repair tanks in Ukraine. According to Rheinmetall, armored vehicles will also be produced there later.
