The city responded quickly – flashed as the 30 sign was barely visible

Date:

Until recently, a sign 30 on Siebererstrasse in Innsbruck was covered by a tree and a second sign in front of it. After a driver was flashed, the city of Innsbruck responded quickly.

The Siebererstrasse near the Innsbruck trade fair. It is located right next to a school, therefore there is a speed limit of 30 km/h. The problem: If you come from Falkstrasse and cross the roundabout onto Siebererstrasse towards Claudiastrasse, the sign with this restriction was difficult to see until recently. Another sign covered the 30 sign and another road sign below it.

In 2023, speed cameras occurred 35 times
The police repeatedly carry out checks in Siebererstrasse, as Daniel Mallaun, head of the traffic department of the Innsbruck city police command, explains. “This is a street where we notice speeding violations at a higher rate than average,” the lieutenant colonel explains. Mallaun doubts whether the poorly visible 30-meter sign is the reason for this. If anything, the wide road would encourage drivers to drive faster.

The police checked Siebererstrasse 35 times in the past year. She once caught a player from Innsbruck who was probably driving too fast because the 30-meter sign was hard to see. Then he complained.

Regulations govern where signs can be placed
There have not been many complaints about unjustified punishments in Siebererstrasse, as both the police and the city magistrate explained when asked. Nevertheless, the administration had already been moved to the front when the local inspection “Krone” took place two days later. It does not always happen so quickly, the city explains: Rules apply to placing traffic signs. However, in this case you can act quickly. Now the sign is actually visible to everyone.
