On Sunday night, 60 firefighters from five fire brigades were deployed to fight the fire in Maria Neustift in Upper Austria, which probably broke out in the area of a wood stove. The homeowner noticed the flames and was able to escape outside with his daughter and cat.
A 53-year-old allegedly lit a small wood stove all day in the kitchen of his parental home in Maria Neustift. When he noticed smoke in the room around 11 p.m., he poured a bucket of water over the embers as a precaution.
Fire brigade notified
An hour later the room was so full of smoke that it could no longer be entered. The homeowner alerted emergency services and fled outside with his 15-year-old daughter and cat.
Prevents flames from spreading
“The kitchen was completely on fire, the flames were shooting out of the window,” reports Martin Scharrer of the Maria Neustift fire brigade. While ten respiratory protection teams brought the facility outside and removed the wooden ceiling, the fire was fought from outside through the windows. This prevented the flames from spreading to the facade.
