Fell into hotel pool – Wet socks led to suspected burglar

Date:

The police were looking for a burglar in Zell am See (Salzburg) on Sunday due to a broken window in an accommodation. Traces leading to the suspected perpetrator: Wet underwear and socks. However, the man who was there was somewhere else and couldn’t remember.

An alleged burglary was reported at an accommodation in Zell am See on Sunday morning. Someone had tampered with two windows, nearly prying open one and breaking another. The officers also found wet socks and wet underwear. Police were able to track down a 37-year-old British man who spent his skiing holiday in Zell am See. However, he was placed in other accommodations.

The interrogation revealed that he could not remember the night before; he had drunk too much alcohol. All he knows is that he woke up naked in his hotel room around five in the morning. Police say he may have jumped or fallen into the outdoor pools of the hotel where he was not staying. Apparently he then tampered with the window because he wanted to get into the room drunk. The wet garments could “clearly” be attributed to him. It is unclear how much damage has been caused. However, the Brit will pay for it in full.
