At the end of June last year, a young man from Styria killed his mother’s partner with 39 stab wounds. “He is extremely dangerous. It can be assumed that he will commit similar acts in the coming days and weeks without preventive detention,” the psychiatric expert emphasized during the trial on Monday.
When the medical examiner arrived at the crime scene on June 28, 2023, the victim lay in a pool of blood almost two meters wide. The 49-year-old’s body was covered in stab wounds. The doctor counted fifteen on her head alone. There were 60 wounds in total. 39 deep stab wounds, the rest superficial cuts and scratches. “He bled to death,” the doctor said simply in the court in Leoben on Monday.
“No remorse, no compassion”
The psychiatric expert also finds clear words: “The suspect meets all the criteria for an antisocial, dissocial personality disorder. He is extremely dangerous. It can be assumed that if he is not placed in protective custody, he will commit similar acts in the coming days and weeks.” He is cold-blooded and callous. I have no remorse and no compassion. “Everyone is to blame but him. He has an excuse for everything. Typical of his serious personality disorder.”
The 25-year-old himself described the psychiatrist’s comments as “crazy shit”. In any case, he could only remember fragments of the crime. He took a lot of medication for his panic attacks and anxiety, which he had had since childhood. He received the tablets especially in Zeltweg on prescription from his GP. He also drank beer and vodka.
“Then we fought”
After a binge with his ‘drinking friends’ in the Zeltweg, he went home to his mother. “I was so depressed. “My mom told me to calm down and have a beer.” But his mother’s 49-year-old partner (59) shouted at him to leave. “I told him to shut up and we started arguing.” His mother herself said on the day of the trial: ‘I don’t want anything to do with this anymore. That doesn’t bring my partner back to me either. It’s hell. I’m at the end.”
At one point he took the kitchen knife and stabbed her. “I didn’t want to kill him, but I was busy with so many things.” The psychiatric expert contradicts this statement: “If you had consumed the same thing without your illness, you would not have killed anyone.”
“Hated to death”
“He did not stop stabbing the victim even as he lay lifeless on the ground. His death could not have been prevented,” the prosecutor said. The crime reconstruction video shows the suspect’s extremely dangerous condition. The 25-year-old laughs constantly, arrogantly and icily when it comes to the gory details. When the prosecutor asks him if he knew the victim well, the suspect says, “So well that I hated him to death.”
When the prosecutor wants to know why, he abruptly ends the conversation. “Were done. I want to go to my cell, drink coffee and smoke.” When he then insults the prosecutor and the judge reprimands him, the violent offender says dryly: “I killed someone. I don’t feel guilty about an insult.”
