An excited woman called the Oberndorf (Salzburg) fire brigade on Monday: A snake in the cellar! But the animal quickly turned out to be harmless…
Ten emergency services from the Oberndorf volunteer fire brigade were alerted on Monday morning because a snake was allegedly found in the basement of an irritated homeowner in the Ziegelhaiden district.
Major surgery due to snake
The Floriani responded with a fire truck and a command vehicle, and ten emergency services accompanied them. Nine other Floriani were on standby at the fire station.
Once on site, however, it quickly became clear to the fire brigade that the snake was only a harmless and non-poisonous slow worm. The animals actually spend the cold months in frost-free holes in the ground, where they freeze. They do not surface again until April. With its long, legless body, the slowworm looks like a snake, but it is a lizard.
The fire brigade collected the animal and released it outside. After searching the remaining basement rooms, she moved back in.
