Since Monday, a 31-year-old American has been on trial in Bavaria for violent crimes at Neuschwanstein Castle. He is charged with murder, rape resulting in death and attempted murder. The man made a full confession.
According to the prosecutor, the 31-year-old holidaymaker brutally attacked the two women for sexual reasons on June 14, 2023, while they were walking near the Marienbrücke in Schwangau. The bridge is a popular meeting point for holidaymakers, because from there you have a particularly good view of the fairytale castle of the Bavarian King Louis II.
Strangled and raped
After the attack, a 21-year-old died and her companion, who was a year older, was seriously injured. The American allegedly strangled and raped the younger woman, and also pushed both victims down a slope about 50 meters deep.
At the start of the trial, defense attorney Philip Müller read a statement largely admitting the allegations. “The suspect committed the incomprehensible act,” it says about the crime against the 21-year-old. The 31-year-old confirmed that the explanation was correct, but did not answer any further questions.
A ruling is expected in mid-March
The court initially scheduled a six-day hearing for the trial. The verdict could therefore be announced in mid-March.
