On Monday, the murderer of Ludwig Moritz (not legally binding) was sentenced to life imprisonment in Leoben (Styria) and admitted because of his dangerous behavior. For the 49-year-old’s sisters, it was the end of a long ordeal. “We want Ludwig to finally find peace! And that the perpetrator will never be released again.”
The two Murtal women sit in the front row on Monday during the murder trial in the jury room of the regional criminal court in Leoben. They want and need to hear everything. While one sister knows almost the entire case file by heart, the second sister has not yet read or viewed anything.
“To conclude: it helps me to know everything”
“I couldn’t do it. It is too difficult. Just being here is such a victory.” – “I feel exactly the same,” says the other person during a break in an interview with the “Steirekrone”. “It helps me have closure when I know everything.” She also looked at the photos of the crime scene with the body, which were spared from onlookers in the courtroom. “But I also know where it was located, what it was like and what it looked like. No questions remain unanswered. And that is important to me.”
During the interrogation of the suspect you can see how difficult it is for the two Styrians and how much suffering they are experiencing. They repeatedly covered their mouths in disbelief. You can hardly believe how coldly the 25-year-old speaks about the murder of her beloved brother.
“He always helped everyone”
“He was such a sweet, good-natured person. He always helped everyone. At least as far as his spastic disability went,” they say. When her mother died a year before the crime, the 49-year-old was suddenly alone in the apartment. “There he met the suspect’s mother. She lives in the same house. “But she simply took advantage of him,” the sisters are convinced.
Photo taken to trial
Before this, the Styrian had never had a real girlfriend. “And then it had to end like this.” They both look fondly at the framed photo of Ludwig that they took to court. And a heart of wood. “There’s a bit of his ashes in there. We wanted him to be there.”
The woman’s desire was justice. Justice for what the 25-year-old suspect did to her brother. They regard the verdict as satisfaction. “We fought for this. Now Ludwig can finally find peace. And hopefully the perpetrator will never be released again!”
The chance of compensation is nil
The court also awarded the sisters 10,000 and 12,000 euros in damages, which the 25-year-old must pay. Sounds like a nice amount for the psychological pain she suffered. But the chance that the Styrians will see even a cent of that is virtually zero.
