Haydn’s masterpiece broadcasts live from the Academy Ballroom – krone.tv

Date:

On the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, “The Creation” by Joseph Haydn can be experienced for the first time in years in an original location, the Academy’s ballroom. krone.tv will broadcast the big festival concert featuring Haydn’s masterpiece live from one of Austria’s most beautiful ballrooms on June 2 from 7.30 pm.

“The Creation” was Josef Haydn’s most discussed work in the early 1800s. Even Ludwig van Beethoven was there: When his oratorio was performed in Haydn’s honor on March 27, 1808 in the beautiful ballroom of what is now the Austrian Academy of Sciences, his younger colleague was so excited that he used the moment of celebration to meet Haydn with one to pay his respects with a kiss on the hand.

The oratorio, written between 1796 and 1798, deals with the creation of the world as explained in Genesis, focusing on the praise of God. Joseph Haydn, then in his sixties, was greatly inspired by this theme. On the occasion of the Academy’s anniversary, Haydn’s opus magnum – which impressed not only Beethoven – can now be relived in an original location.

Top ensemble in a historic ambiance
One of the most beautiful ballrooms in the country opens its doors on June 2 for the anniversary celebration of the OeAW, where the top soloist ensemble Cornelia Horak, Johannes Bamberger and Stefan Zenkl as well as the Wiener Singakademie and the original sound orchestra Barucco under the artistic direction of Heinz Ferlesch “The Creation” can be heard in a historic setting.
