The earth shook in Carinthia – twice: the epicenter was nine kilometers southeast of Ferlach.
“There is no known damage to buildings so far – and this is not expected at this level,” reassures seismologist Helmut Hausmann. According to the experts from “GeoSphere”, the epicenter was in the Karawanks. The first earthquake at 11:11 a.m., at a depth of eleven kilometers, reached a magnitude of 3.0, according to Richter – the second at 11:21 a.m., at a depth of nine kilometers, had a magnitude of 2.6.
Noticeable even in the Klagenfurt area
Both earthquakes, about nine kilometers south of Ferlach, were clearly felt by many people. Some of them reacted with great concern. “And this extends to the Klagenfurt region,” explains the expert. The observations of earthquakes must be reported on the homepage of “GeoSphere Austria” at https://www.geosphere.at/.
