The district administration of Ried announced that on the evening of February 13, an infected person who was now suffering from measles visited the Geinberg thermal baths in the Innviertel. Due to the high contagiousness, other swimmers could also have become infected.
The BH therefore advises people who do not have immunity from two measles-mumps-rubella vaccinations or who have had measles to monitor their health. If symptoms such as high fever, dry cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis and inflammation in the nasopharynx occur before March 5, the doctor should be called immediately, according to the district administration of Ried/Innkreis.
More than 300,000 cases worldwide
The World Health Organization (WHO) sounded the alarm this week about the sharp increase in the number of measles infections: More than 306,000 cases of measles were reported worldwide last year, the WHO announced on Tuesday in Geneva. That’s an increase of 79 percent compared to 2022. According to the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES), as of February 21, there have been 129 confirmed cases of measles in Austria since the start of the year. In 2023, 186 infections were registered.
