More than 50 years after Melissa Highsmith was kidnapped as a baby by her Texas babysitter, she is reunited with her family. A DNA test made it possible.
In September, family members received an anonymous tip that Melissa was staying near Charleston, South Carolina.
The family used the results of a DNA test, a birthmark on Melissa and her birthday to confirm that she is indeed the girl who was abducted 51 years ago. “We are thrilled to be reunited,” the family said. “I couldn’t stop crying when we saw each other after such a long time,” says Victoria Garner, Melissa’s sister.
