Boxes as lifeboats – Four sailors rescued after days at sea

Incredible rescue off the coast of the Indonesian island of Sulawesi: A search group rescued four sailors on Monday who had been missing since Friday. The quartet had survived on a raft made of white coolers after a cargo ship sank in the middle of the ocean.

The four sailors, who floated in cool boxes in the sea, were discovered by fishermen about 100 kilometers off the coast in the Bali Sea on Monday. Their cargo ship, the KM Ladang Pertiwi 02, sank Friday in bad weather. A total of 42 people were on board when the ship, sailing from the port city of Meccasar to the island of Kalamas, capsized in rough seas, sources said.

Two motorboats, a search and rescue boat, local fishing boats and Indonesian Air Force helicopters are involved in the search for the missing persons. To date, 31 of the 42 people on board the KM Ladang Pertiwi 02 have been rescued at the time of the accident, Indonesian media reported.
