A 31-year-old woman in Upper Austria was exposed for her illegal pastry business through an advertisement on a social media platform. The woman sold at least 806 cakes – priced at 90 euros each – and earned around 72,000 euros. She has been receiving unemployment benefits and emergency aid since the beginning of 2022.
According to the Upper Austrian Labor Service (AMS), the suspects unlawfully received approximately 16,882 euros, the Ministry of Finance announced in a press release on Sunday.
Chargebacks are pending
The 31-year-old is waiting for refunds of the AMS support she wrongly applied for. The financial police also reported fraud to the Public Prosecution Service and to the Tax Authorities for tax evasion.
Insidious ad
The financial police were alerted to an advertisement linking to the woman’s social media account. There she posted 806 photos to promote her cakes. The platform also offered the option to place orders via direct message. The illegal pastry chef collected 90 euros per cake.
