It was a last minute rescue. A boy (7) was in danger of drowning in the Schörgenhubbad in Linz. A swimmer pulled the child out of the water. A member of the water rescue team then helped the boy breathe again.
That was close: as reported, a seven-year-old boy went swimming in the Schörgenhubbad in Linz on Saturday morning. He ended up in the pool via a slide, but was not wearing swimming wings. With fatal consequences because the little one went under water and never resurfaced.
Parents didn’t notice anything
According to police, his parents, who were also in the water and in the immediate vicinity of the child, did not notice that their son’s life was in danger. But an observant swimmer noticed that the boy had not resurfaced. He took the little one out of the water. He was already unconscious.
Successful resuscitation
Elke Halsegger (pictured), who works as a sports advisor with the state water rescue board, began CPR and quickly helped the seven-year-old breathe and regain consciousness. The lifeguard took over further care until the rescue service and the emergency doctor arrived. The boy, who responded, was taken to Children’s Hospital.
