Deep concern over explosive discoveries in her child’s bedroom drove a woman straight to the nearest police station in Lower Austria. Her son and his friend are now facing numerous complaints.
It’s not always easy to keep secrets from your parents, especially if you still live in the same household. A 14-year-old from a small community in the Krems district also had this experience. She even took him straight to the police. Because his own mother reported him there.
The woman had previously made shocking discoveries in her son’s bedroom. There she found various substances completely unknown to her, as well as a number of pyrotechnic objects of which the worried woman could not properly assess the danger.
Examined in the laboratory
The investigators confiscated all items. An initial rapid test yielded no results, at least for the white powder. It will now be sent to a laboratory for further testing. “A rapid test only responds to the most common substances”, the police cannot yet estimate whether it is actually a narcotic.
The result is clearer for the 62 rockets and firecrackers collected. They all fall into categories F2 (only for ages 16 and up) and F3 (only for explosives experts), so the boy shouldn’t have owned them in the first place. But he didn’t buy it, the youngster claims. A friend gave it to him.
188 prohibited fireworks
That is why the police also called the parents of the 15-year-old. There the officers came across a veritable warehouse with pyrotechnics. No fewer than 188 pieces were found, some even of the most dangerous category F4. They all have no quality mark and no imprint in German. “So they were probably bought at the Czech border,” the police say. The two boys are now facing numerous complaints.
