Cat falls out of window – survives fall from ninth floor of high-rise building

Date:

The Maine Coon cat “Mitsuki” may have had significantly more than seven lives in Lower Austria. Because the treatment now costs a lot of money, the owner divorces her pet and the animal shelter now has to raise the amount…

It’s a miracle that “Mitsuki” is still alive. “Most of the time you’re dead,” her vets are certain. She had previously fallen almost 30 meters from a residential building in Krems. The accident happened while cleaning the apartment. The owner opened the window, the velvet paw then jumped onto the windowsill and probably lost its balance.

The seven-month-old cat was later diagnosed with a pulmonary hemorrhage, a ruptured diaphragm, a dislocated hip, a broken femur and jaw injuries. “She is currently taking strong painkillers and is still in shock,” the vets report.

8000 euros treatment costs
When “Mitsuki” recovers from her fall, she will have to look for a new home. The estimated 8,000 euros in treatment costs are too much for her owner. She left her four-legged friend at the Krems animal shelter, which now depends on donations. The animal corner “Krone” has already promised to cover 3,000 euros.

“Unfortunately, since Corona we have been receiving many cats because their owners cannot afford the costs of surgery,” confirms animal shelter manager Andrea Specht. Last but not least, veterinary costs for the Krems animal shelter almost tripled last year from 70,000 to 200,000 euros.

Yet the owner is experiencing problems. She is accused of animal cruelty because she should have installed fall protection under the Animal Protection Act.
