It has only now become known that a father fell three meters last week while working on trees in his garden. He accidentally hit his head and was fatally injured. Particularly tragic: the two young sons found their father dead.
A tragedy – as has only now become publicly known – occurred last Wednesday in Weitersfelden: a 59-year-old was busy pruning a tree late in the afternoon and had a ladder leaning on a branch. But he could not bear the weight and broke when the father of the family was about three meters high.
The emergency doctor could do nothing
There were no witnesses to the incident, but the tracks showed that the man from Mühlviertel must have fallen on his head and suffered fatal injuries. The victim was found by his two sons (12 and 16 years old). They grabbed her mother, who called 911 and began CPR. But the emergency doctor could do nothing for the man; he probably died immediately.
15 percent fall from height
About 4,800 people are injured while gardening in Upper Austria every year, and 65 percent of the cases involve men. And 15 percent of all garden accidents are due to “falls from a great height”.
