A Völkermarkter probably had a particularly attentive guardian angel. Because when he fell from the dike behind his house on Monday evening, he was able to call for help himself.
It is currently unclear how the accident could have happened, but around 10:50 p.m. a 58-year-old man from Völkermarkt was walking on his property. “He fell from the adjacent dike and only came to rest after about 70 meters,” the police said.
“At 11:02 p.m. we were called to a stretcher via the silent alarm. An operation that is usually completed quite quickly,” explains the Völkermarkt volunteer fire brigade. “When we arrived on site, the investigation revealed that a person had fallen over a dike of approximately 60 meters. The last ten meters were basically in free fall.” Fortunately, the man did not lose consciousness.
“Miraculously, he was still responsive and started the rescue chain himself with his mobile phone,” says the Völkermarkt volunteer fire brigade, describing the happy event. The 58-year-old called his partner, who then alerted the emergency services. Together with the Bad Eisenkappel mountain rescue service, the man was eventually rescued with the help of a pull rope and, after receiving emergency medical attention, taken to the UKH Klagenfurt.
