The bodies of the victims have been found following the sensational double murder of an Australian TV journalist and his friend in Sydney. The police officer who was arrested as the suspected perpetrator apparently gave the authorities the crucial tip.
“We are confident we have found Luke and Jesse,” New South Wales Police Chief Karen Webb told reporters on Tuesday.
The bodies of 26-year-old celebrity journalist Jesse Baird and 29-year-old flight attendant Luke Davies were discovered in a rural area about two hours’ drive from Sydney.
Bloodstained clothing found in garbage bins
The investigation was launched after bloodstained clothing belonging to Baird and Davies was found in a rubbish bin in a Sydney suburb early last week.
The bodies were probably transported in surfboard bags
When they searched their apartment in the Paddington area, investigators found ‘a large amount of blood’, but initially there was no sign of the victims. Police believe the bodies of the two men were transported and hidden in surfboard bags in a white van.
Bullets from the weapon provided crucial information
A bullet from a registered police weapon found in the apartment then gave the officers a crucial clue to the suspected perpetrator. The weapon was later found in a locker at a police station.
The man who was arrested on Friday as a suspected perpetrator apparently gave the authorities the crucial tip. “This information came with the assistance of the suspect,” Police Chief Webb said.
