Navalny’s team complains: – Nobody wants to provide a hall for a funeral service

Date:

After Alexei Navalny’s body was handed over last weekend, supporters of the Kremlin’s opponent have struggled to organize the funeral service. Because no matter where you ask: no one in Russia wants to take care of the funeral. The fear of persecution and reprisals is too great…

“After a day of searching, we still haven’t found a funeral hall,” Navalny’s spokeswoman Kira Yarmysch announced on X on Tuesday. Some funeral homes said they were fully booked, while others declined as soon as Navalny’s name was mentioned.

“At one point we were told that funeral homes were no longer allowed to work with us.”

Jamysch publicly announced on Friday that Navalny’s supporters were looking for a place to publicly say goodbye to the politician. The funeral is scheduled for the end of this week. She also asked people with the right resources to contact her:

However, the attempts so far have not been successful. However, these kinds of obstacles were to be expected. Authorities have already cracked down on expressions of sympathy to President Vladimir Putin’s fiercest critic. Hundreds of people were arrested in Russia just for laying flowers for the regime’s deceased enemy.

The cause of death remains unclear
On February 16, it was announced that Alexei Navalny had died in the extremely brutal penal colony ‘Polar Wolf’ in the far north of Russia. Only nine days later – after much pleading and countless harassment – was the mother’s body handed over. She complained publicly about the enormous psychological pressure from the authorities who wanted to force her to bury her son in secret. However, she did not accept this. It is currently believed that Navalny will be buried in a cemetery in Moscow. The exact date and location are not yet known.
