Sensational police operation Wednesday morning in Laßnitzhöhe, east of Graz: a witness saw two boys handling a gun on the sidewalk in front of the high school. The special Cobra unit searched the school. Then the signal was given: it was just a toy gun.
There was great excitement when numerous police patrols with flashing lights and the Cobra task force cordoned off the high school in Laßnitzhöhe around 7:30 am on Wednesday. A witness had reported the incident by telephone because two boys walking on the sidewalk towards the high school were apparently holding a gun.
Toy gun bought in the supermarket
The school management asked students and teaching staff to stay in the classrooms. The Cobra task force took over the search. Within an hour, everything was safe: two 13-year-olds sheepishly reported to their class teacher and handed him a harmless toy gun. They had previously bought them in a supermarket.
There was no criminal offense. According to the police, an educational conversation took place with the two boys in the presence of their parents.
