Judgment day in the trial of a 33-year-old Lower Austrian woman and her former best friend in the Krems Regional Court. The mother is said to have seriously tortured her twelve-year-old son from the summer until November 2022 – under the leadership of the second defendant. Legal expert Peter Hofmann kicks things off.
Before the court psychiatrist takes the floor, the two defendants speak again. The second defendant constantly contradicts himself and wallows in self-pity. Then she surprises with an explanation. She told her uncle in September 2022 that the first defendant locked the 12-year-old in a dog box. But he said he didn’t know anything about it.
“Gerhard, get into the coffin, otherwise I will kill you.”
For the first time she admits that she was there when 33-year-old Gerhard (name changed) was forced into the cage. This happened after the boy ran away again. “He hit us,” she claims. The mother then shouted: “Gerhard, get into the coffin, otherwise I will kill you.” Then he crawled in on his knees.
The mother defended by Astrid Wagner risks life imprisonment. In the case of her former ‘soulmate’, represented by Sascha Flatz, the penalty is a maximum of 15 years in prison. The jury is expected to begin deliberations Thursday afternoon.
