Great response – France: Senate for “freedom to abortion”

Date:

In France, the right to abortion is enshrined in law. Now the “freedom to abortion” must be given a (symbolic) constitutional status. The Senate has already approved.

Both houses of parliament will meet next week to amend the constitution accordingly. The recording has a more symbolic character.

In 2022, 86 percent of French people supported its inclusion in the constitution (see video above).

The health insurance reimburses the costs
The government under President Emmanuel Macron submitted a corresponding bill in December. Both chambers of parliament had voted to enshrine the right to abortion in the constitution.

Abortions up to the tenth week of pregnancy have been unpunished in France since 1975. Pregnant women in France can now have an abortion up to the 14th week, and their health insurance will cover the costs.
