Every other day! – A flood of lawsuits for sexual abuse

Date:

Allegations of sexual abuse of minors are piling up at the Eisenstadt Regional Court. On Thursday, a Lower Austrian who did more than just grope a 16-year-old girl got away with a lenient sentence. His response: “And how am I supposed to pay those 1000 euros? I do not have anything.”

A quick survey among friends showed that everyone would at least wear a jacket if they had to appear in court – whether it was about guilt or innocence, port or freedom. After a defendant wearing a neon yellow safety vest reduced his seriousness to absurdity on Tuesday, the ‘Krone’ reported, a 49-year-old in a jeans outfit sat before Judge Doris Halper-Praunias on Thursday. This guy didn’t study quantum physics either; some people had last seen his sea-washed trousers with cuffs around the ankles 35 years ago.

Question to all lawyers: Why don’t you advise clients to wear something smart?

Anyway:

Yesterday, the third trial within a week took place in Eisenstadt, which concerned sexual abuse of children or young people in Burgenland. Two more will follow next week. Wordless.

Victim or perpetrator protection?
The suspect, his lawyer, the judge, the public prosecutor, the representative of private parties and three journalists sat at the closed session in room 1. The latter were expelled from the room before the charges were read. Victim Protection! Legally okay, but: isn’t perpetrator protection practiced behind closed doors? And: How can you communicate this verdict without a shitstorm breaking out online against the oh-so-lenient legal system?

Because he had repeatedly touched his partner’s intimate area and groped her breasts, the innocent man was sentenced to a six-month suspended prison sentence. If he behaves well for three years, nothing will happen to him.

A three-day reflection period was requested.
