A previously unknown man got into a conflict with a 24-year-old passerby for unknown reasons. The situation escalated when the unknown man suddenly pulled out a knife and attacked his victim.
A friend of the 24-year-old became aware of the incident in the Fifth Precinct and rushed to help. In an attempt to stop the alleged perpetrator, the helper himself was punched in the face before the attacker fled.
Stab wound to the upper body
The emergency services immediately took action on Monday evening. Despite intensive searches, the identity of the perpetrator remained unknown for the time being. The victims suffered injuries as a result of the attacks.
The man who was attacked with the knife and suffered a stab wound to the upper body received emergency medical attention from the Vienna Professional Rescue Service and was taken to hospital. The other refused treatment by the emergency service.
The background to the crime and the identity of the attacker remain unclear at this time. Police are calling on the public to report any relevant information – even anonymously – to local police stations.
