In Amsterdam, a homeless man recently found a wallet containing 2,000 euros and handed it in to the police. As a thank you, a fundraising campaign was started for him, which raised 34,102 euros in one day. His life was ‘completely turned upside down’, said the honest finder.
Hadjer Ali-Ali found the wallet at Amsterdam Central Station while he was “doing his rounds” looking for returnable bottles. According to the police, it contained “about 2,000 euros”, but no IDs or other information about the owner. The person has not yet contacted us.
As a thank you from the police, Hadjer received the “Silver Thumb” award and a voucher worth 50 euros. But the 33-year-old’s life has been “completely turned upside down” by an online fundraiser for him. There were a total of 2,800 donations, raising more than 34,000 euros.
Want to look for a rental apartment
Hadjer, who has been living on the street for a year and a half and has two children, finally wants to use the money to look for a rental apartment. He also received numerous messages offering him work. “I want to thank everyone very much,” he said in a video on Instagram. He was ‘flooded’ with good news and was now able to get his life back on track.
The owner of the wallet still has one year to report it to the police. Otherwise, the 2000 euros also goes to the finder.
