Dramatic scenes took place on the A1 in Lower Austria on Sunday afternoon. A man was driving a motor home on the West Autobahn when he suddenly went into cardiac arrest. His companion alerted the emergency services and, accompanied by an employee of Notruf Niederösterreich, began CPR measures.
According to Philipp Gutlederer of Notruf Niederösterreich, the incident took place in the vicinity of Oed (Amstetten district). The woman continued the measures until the rescuers arrived, after which the Red Cross helpers took over.
The resuscitation measures were ultimately successful, according to Gutlederer, the man was flown by the emergency doctor helicopter “Christophorus 10” to a hospital in Linz. The Red Cross and the Amstetten volunteer fire brigade were on site.
