Despite the high temperatures this week – and the announced extension – the bathing season in Stockerau (Lower Austria) is over. This especially irritates regular guests.
The fact that the outdoor swimming pool in Stockerau is closed when school starts has been a tradition for almost 40 years. This year, however, the regular guests in particular are disappointed with the punctual end of the season: “Because for the first time an extension of the opening of the outdoor pool was announced in good weather,” explains Günther Zahler.
Every year he is one of the first to buy a season ticket and from May he regularly swims lengths in the swimming pool. “Since the weather in the spring this year was not inviting for swimming, the prospect of a longer season after school started was an incentive to buy a season ticket anyway,” explains the bather.
‘Temperatures predicted up to 28 degrees’
The announcement of the possible extension of the season was read on the city news. “This message also appeared in the September issue last Friday, but swimming was closed on Monday, although temperatures of up to 28 degrees are predicted,” says Zahler angrily.
Mayor: Extended opening too expensive
Mayor Andrea Völkl defends the closure of the outdoor pool at the end of the holiday: “The number of visitors is not that great anymore.” In addition, the indoor pool is already open. In the spring, due to a construction site in the outdoor pool, it was not clear whether it could be unlocked in time. “That’s why we said we could make up for the missed bath time in September. But the weather was bad in May, so we didn’t miss a single bathing day,” says Völkl. The effort for a longer outdoor pool opening is too great.
