The President of France and the President of the EC received the leader of China in Paris today, for a visit that will address thorny issues such as the war in Ukraine and trade tensions.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyenhe asked this Monday together with the President of France: Emmanuel Macronthat China must play a role in ending the war in Ukraine and stopping Russia’s nuclear threats.
During a trilateral meeting in Paris with the Chinese leader Xi Jinpingthe president of the community and the French leader have stressed “the need not to supply lethal weapons to Russia”. Similarly, they have emphasized that “Beijing should increase its oversight of the supply of goods for civilian and military use, such as drones, to Moscow, given the risk that this type of material could ultimately be used in aggression against Ukraine.”
‘It is necessary to redouble efforts restrict the supply of dual-use items to Russia that they can reach the battlefield,” Von der Leyen emphasized at the end of the trilateral meeting, ensuring that this threatens to affect EU-China relations.
This Sunday, Xi began his first visit to Europe in five years in France, a trip in which he will share impressions about his country’s economic development and global role with European leaders.
‘The international situation needs dialogue more than ever between China and Europe…It is our wish to have a balanced relationship with China,” Macron said at the start of this meeting in open microphone statements.
In this sense, Von der Leyen has appealed to Xi Jinping ‘to resolve the surplus Industrial production which then floods the European market,” warning that the European Union “will defend its businesses and economies” and “will not hesitate to make difficult decisions” if this practice continues.
