The unions CCOO and UGT, the majority in Correos, have called for three days of strike from today to Friday in defense of a public postal service and decent working conditions.

This Wednesday they will hold a trade union meeting in Bilbao in Alameda Urquijo street at 11:30 am.

In Madrid, thousands of workers will take part in the demonstration that will start at 12:00 in Plaza de Callao and end before the Congress of Deputies.

The unions insist that Correos has already lost more than 7,000 jobs of the 55,000 it had in 2018, “with the lowest number of employees in its history”.

In addition, CCOO and UGT denounce that Correos “hides its intention to include “more than 3,000 sub-functions (40% of the total) in the labor supply,” which would increase the current unwanted jobs to an unacceptable 30% of the total). template”.

Correos, for its part, emphasizes that there is no privatization plan, that there is also no transfer of activities from Correos to Correos Express and that it is not closing any offices or distribution centers. On the job front, the postal company says it is immersed in a process of transforming its business model, without privatization or layoffs, describing it as “untrue” that Correos is going to fragment.

“This is an internal reorganization that will not affect the unity of the company, with specialization by business units to improve management within the structure of the company,” said the source.
