A container fire in the Schulgasse in Bregenz made headlines at the beginning of April last year. Now a 15-year-old student was on trial in Feldkirch.
Unknown people set the 1,100 liter container on fire around 9 p.m. The fire brigade had to be called, a woman was taken to hospital with suspected smoke poisoning and the material damage amounted to around 15,000 euros.
Accomplices accuse the man
After reviewing video from a surveillance camera, three boys were investigated. Two of them have already been convicted for other fires. Now the third member of the group, a 15-year-old student, is the target: the accomplices had already heavily charged the boy in advance and claimed that he had set the paper container on fire with a Bunsen burner.
However, the suspect denied this. “We went to the youth club first and went into town around 8pm to buy a kebab.” Suddenly one of his friends was gone. “Then he came back and said it would be okay if we ran now. “He just set fire to a cardboard box in the dumpster,” the defendant reports.
The trial was postponed
The 15-year-old admits that he had previously taken fireworks and two Bunsen burners from the science classroom at his school. “But I returned the items to the director before the fire.” The student also denies having confessed to bribery. The trial was postponed.
