During a walk with his dog on Wednesday afternoon in Vienna-Ottakring in the area of Johann-Staud-Straße, a man discovered an explosive object. He immediately alerted the police. The war material had to be secured and removed.
During the operation, the officers of the Ottakring city police command had to accompany an explosives knowledge body (SKO) of the Vienna State Police Directorate. According to the director, it was probably a bomb base containing the detonator of an aircraft bomb (see photo). “The war material was secured and removed,” said the Viennese police.
It will then be handed over to the federal army’s mine clearance service.
The Vienna Police also provides the following tips on how to behave in such incidents:
- If you find objects or war materials suspected of being explosives, note the location and move to a safe distance.
- Call 133 or 112 immediately.
- Objects and war materials suspected of being explosive may not be moved or manipulated.
