The devastating fire in Liezener Ausseer Straße was caused by arson. This is evident from research by the police. Two Syrians (18, 39) are suspected of starting the fire. The Leoben Public Prosecution Service ordered the arrest of asylum seekers.
On Tuesday night, around 1 a.m., there was a major fire on the ground floor of a residential and commercial building in the old town of Liezen. When the Florianis arrived, high flames were already shooting up from the business premises along the facade to the adjacent apartments. Twenty people had to be evacuated from their homes and firefighters were engaged in large-scale operations for hours.
The criminal investigation has now led to the former owner and his successor of a commercial business being housed in the apartment complex. The two Syrians (18 and 39) living in Upper Austria were arrested at their home address the same day. They are suspected of setting the house on fire!
Arrested in Upper Austria
Police officers from the Mondsee police station (Upper Austria) arrested the two suspects at their home address in the Vöcklabruck district. Police officers from the districts of Liezen and Vöcklabruck (Upper Austria) carried out a search on the orders of the Leoben public prosecutor. Both suspects are in Leoben prison. They have not provided any information about the motive so far.
