Moscow has reacted calmly to the far-reaching boycott of Russian oil planned in the EU. The released amounts would be diverted in other directions, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday, according to Russia’s Interfax news agency.
“Of course these sanctions have a negative effect on the whole continent – on Europeans and on us and on the entire global energy market.” Russia will minimize the negative impacts through systematic actions, Peskov said.
Russia: Income is bubbling up
Even after the US oil embargo, the Russian leadership had stated that the volumes had been almost completely diverted to other markets. The income was bubbling, he said. The EU also wants to prevent Russia from continuing to finance its war against Ukraine with an oil boycott.
Due to the high oil prices, a lot of money is currently flowing into the Russian state budget, which is heavily dependent on energy exports. Europeans in particular would now have to live with the negative consequences – especially high energy prices – Peskow said.
