Rescue teams search for survivors in rubble in cities in Lushan region
An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale killed and injured several people on Wednesday after shaking the city of Yaan, in southwestern Sichuan province, according to the China Earthquake Network Center (CENC).
At least one person has been killed and six others injured, according to the Xinhua news agency, although the CCTV network says at least four people have been killed and 14 injured.
The shock’s epicenter, at a depth of 17 kilometers, has been recorded in Lushan province, while one of the magnitude 4.5 aftershocks hit Baoxing district, where these people are said to have died.
The Chinese Ministry of Emergency Management has activated alarm level 3. More than 800 rescue, emergency, police and fire services have been dispatched to the affected areas.
